DNDN Co-chair challenges NHS Trusts to become visibly disabled friendly at NHS Providers Conference

Posted on:

Speaking at the NHS Providers Annual Conference, DNDN co-chair Peter Reading challenged NHS leaders to become “visibly disabled friendly”.  He highlighted the enormous gap between the 20% of NHS staff who declare a disability in the NHS Staff Survey where their input is anonymous and the 3.7% who make the declaration in the electronic staff record.  He also drew attention to the current proportion of NHS board members who declare a disability, coincidentally also 3.7%, and the 58.5% of boards that have no disabled members.

A recording of Peter’s speech and response to questions can be found at NHS Providers Annual Conference 2022 (Day two): Inclusive leadership for a resilient NHS – YouTube (starting 28 minutes into the video and concluding after 38 minutes).
